Recommended JAMB UTME Textbooks (All Subjects)

The JAMB UTME syllabus recommends specific textbooks for each subject — 353 titles across 25 subjects. JAMB does not sell or require any of them; they are suggested reading to help you cover each subject’s objectives. Below are the recommended texts for every subject, exactly as drawn from the official JAMB syllabus, each linking to that subject’s full page.

How to choose and use JAMB textbooks

  • You don’t need every book. Pick one or two core texts per subject that cover the syllabus objectives, then rely on past questions.
  • Let the objectives lead. For each topic, read only the parts that match the listed objectives — that is exactly what JAMB tests.
  • Pair reading with practice. Work through CBT past questions after each topic to lock in what you’ve read.
  • Editions and sources. Use a recent edition where you can; libraries and used copies are perfectly fine.
  • Always cross-check the syllabus. If a book and the syllabus disagree, follow the official JAMB syllabus.

Does JAMB provide or sell these textbooks?
No. JAMB does not sell or supply textbooks. The titles in the syllabus are recommended reading only — you buy them from bookshops, borrow from a library, or use second-hand copies.
Are the recommended textbooks compulsory for UTME?
No. They are suggestions to help you cover each subject’s objectives. What JAMB tests is the syllabus, not a specific book, so any text that fully covers the objectives works.
How many textbooks do I need per subject?
For most subjects one or two core texts that cover the syllabus objectives are enough, paired with plenty of past-question practice. You do not need every title on the list.
How should I use these textbooks effectively?
Let the syllabus objectives drive your reading: for each topic, read only the sections that match the objectives, then test yourself with past questions. Reading cover-to-cover is slower and less targeted.
